Part of the Rubiaceae family or the coffee family, mitragyna speciosa or kratom is a tall tree that grows abundantly in Southeast Asia. The leaves of the tree are known to have medicinal benefits, particularly in relieving pain, increasing energy levels, and improving mind alertness. It can also be used as a sedative when taken in large doses.
The finest species of kratom are said to be found in Thailand. The tree itself is tough, branching, and usually grows from 12 to 30 feet. It has evergreen, ovate-acuminate leaves that measure somewhere around 7 inches. It bears yellow flowers with each flower head holding up to 120 florets.
In Thai traditional medicines, kratom is used to cure opiod dependence and to increase coitus duration. People can even get kratom as an anti-diarrhea medicine, and nowadays, it also used to treat anxiety and depression. It also works as a stress-reliever.
Before trying out mytragina speciosa, make sure that it is legal to get kratom in your country, and that you have asked advice from someone knowledgeable. Try the product that you think suits your needs as the plant comes in many forms (capsule, tea, powder, extract, resin, etc.). Furthermore, start with a small dose. Be aware that each product has different usage doses and that doses may react differently from person to person.
There are no serious side effects to taking kratom when used responsibly. Common side effects are nausea, vomiting, reddening of the face, and constipation. However, if consumed more than the proper dose and when the dose is too strong for the person, hallucination, aggression, or schizophrenia may be experienced.
